Vietnamese firm intends to construct NPK plants to boost supply
With aim to augment supply for the domestic market, Vietnam's Binh Dien Fertiliser Co. plans to build two NPK fertiliser plants.
The plants will be built in the northern province of Ninh Binh and the southern province of Dong Nai with respective annual output capacity of 150,000 tonnes and 200,000 tonnes, said Le Quoc Phong, general director of Binh Dien Fertiliser Co.
However, Phong did not unveil the timetable and costs for building the two plants.
The two plants, along with the on-going NPK fertiliser project with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes yearly of the PetroVietnam Fertiliser and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo), are expected to help the country cut imports of this kind of fertiliser and prices would be more stable.
Vietnam's demand for NPK is about 3.5 million tonnes while the existing plants can supply 3.42 million tonnes.
As of June 15, the country imported 104,000 tonnes of NPK worth nearly US$51.2 million, up 2% on year, said the General Department of Customs.
